Privacy Policy for SubSense – Subscription Organiser

SubSense (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use the SubSense mobile application.

1. Information We Collect

SubSense is designed with a privacy-first, local-storage architecture.

  • Google User Data: To provide our services, we request access to your YouTube subscription list via Google OAuth 2.0. At sign-in SubSense asks for two YouTube permissions: read access to your subscription list (the youtube.readonly scope), and permission to unsubscribe you from channels you choose (the youtube.force-ssl scope). The unsubscribe permission is used solely to remove channels you have explicitly selected and confirmed — nothing on your account is changed without your per-action confirmation, and it is used for no other purpose.
  • Subscription Metadata: We process the names, categories, and upload frequencies of the channels you follow to provide “Smart Categorization” and “Inactive Channel Detection.”
  • No Personal Identifiable Information (PII): We do not collect your name, email address (except when you email us for support), or location. SubSense has no servers, so nothing about you is ever transmitted to us. Your Google account details (name, email and profile photo) are used on your device only — to show you which account is signed in — and are never sold, shared or sent anywhere. On Android, SubSense does not save these details at all: they are shown live from your Google sign-in session and are gone when you sign out.

2. How We Use Your Data

We use the data retrieved from the YouTube API solely to:

  • Categorize your subscriptions into groups (e.g., Tech, Gaming).
  • Identify inactive channels based on their last upload date.
  • Calculate your “Feed Health Score.”
  • Unsubscribe you from channels you have explicitly selected and confirmed. SubSense never performs automatic unsubscribes — every removal is from a list you have reviewed and confirmed first.

3. Data Sharing and Disclosure

SubSense does not sell, rent, transfer, or share Google user data with any third parties.

All YouTube subscription data accessed through Google APIs is processed locally on your device only.

Your data is not transmitted to our servers, cloud services, or external databases.

We do not allow human access to Google user data.

We may only disclose information if required to comply with applicable laws, legal obligations, or enforceable governmental requests.

4. Data Storage and Security

  • Local Storage: All subscription data and analysis are stored locally on your device. We do not use third-party servers or cloud databases to store your YouTube information.
  • Direct API Connection: The app communicates directly with official Google/YouTube APIs. Your data never passes through an intermediary server owned by us.
  • Account Modifications: The only changes SubSense can make to your YouTube account are to unsubscribe you from channels — only channels you have explicitly selected, and only after you confirm each removal — and, if you tap Undo right after a removal, to re-subscribe you to those same channels to restore them. SubSense performs no automatic unsubscribes (every removal is one you reviewed and confirmed first), never subscribes you to new channels, and makes no other modifications to your account. You can also continue to manage your subscriptions manually within the YouTube app/website at any time.

5. Third-Party Services

SubSense uses Google Sign-In and the YouTube Data API on both iOS and Android. By using this app, you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. SubSense uses and transfers information received from Google APIs in accordance with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

Cached YouTube data is refreshed or deleted within 30 days. SubSense keeps a local copy of your subscription list and upload-activity analysis so the app works quickly and offline. To stay within YouTube’s API Terms, that cached data is automatically refreshed while you use the app — and if it has not been refreshed within 30 days, SubSense deletes it. The app simply re-syncs the next time you open it. Your own work — your tags — is not YouTube data and is kept until you delete it.

Deleting your data and revoking access (Android). In the app: Settings → Delete my data & revoke access. This revokes SubSense’s access to your YouTube account and deletes the data SubSense stored on your device: your synced channels, smart categories, tags, feed analysis, learned preferences, cached thumbnails and your account details. Two things are deliberately kept, because neither is your YouTube data: your lifetime unlock, if you bought one (deleting your data does not undo a purchase), and your free-removal counter (deleting your data does not hand used removals back). Your theme setting is also kept. Your YouTube subscriptions are not touched — nothing is unsubscribed.

On iOS, sign out to disconnect your account, and uninstall the app to remove the data it stored on your device.

On either platform you can revoke SubSense’s access at any time from your Google Account permissions, and uninstalling the app removes the data it stored on your device.

7. Children’s Privacy

SubSense does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the “Last Updated” date.
